Role Summary



The Fire Protection QC will complete increasingly complex fire suppression, fire alarm and mass notification field construction activities. This position will be responsible for ensuring fire protection systems are delivered to the client in compliance with contract documents and industry standards while assisting the project team in developing solutions as challenges arise. 


Key Role Responsibilities - Core


  • Learns and actively participates in all aspects of the company’s safety and quality plans and culture by demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through individual actions and mentoring others.
  • Completes entry level and routine fire protection and field construction activities. 
  • Learns how to develop budgetary fire protection estimates, based upon program and schematic design information using automated M/E estimating system.
  • Assists in the review of fire protection options as part of the preconstruction process and completes systems analysis for select projects.
  • Learns to develop fire protection scopes of work used to coordinate during the bid process.
  • Assists in the completion of bid analysis and provides input during the subcontractor selection process. 
  • Assists in planning, implementing and supervising the project quality team. 
  • Assists in developing sequencing requirements of various systems and provides solutions to meet schedule requirements.
  • Gains knowledge of design documents to identify potential quality problems ahead of project schedule to prevent rework. 
  • Learns to perform job inspections to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality and timely manner.
  • Learns and assists with the shop drawing/submittal process to comply with the contract documents.
  • Assists in the commissioning process by providing input on pre-functional checklists, functional testing procedures and functional testing. 
  • Leads, supports and promotes a culture of diversity and inclusion within JE Dunn.  Understands JE Dunn’s policy of non-discrimination and ensures positive, proactive implementation throughout the organization.

Key Role Responsibilities - Additional Core

In addition, this position will be responsible for the following:

  • Completes increasingly complex fire protection field construction activities.
  • Provides technical guidance and problem solving to mitigate design and construction related challenges.  
  • Develops budgetary fire protection estimates, based upon program and schematic design information.
  • Reviews fire protection options, completes systems analysis, recommends best system for the project and provides value engineering suggestions.
  • Coordinates fire protection scopes of work during the bid process.
  • Develops sequencing requirements of various systems and provides solutions to meet the schedule requirements. 
  • Reviews and approves shop drawings and product data prior to submission.
  • Reviews design documents, codes and standards to identify potential quality concerns. 
  • Conducts daily site walks to ensure compliance with the contract documents, manufacturer's instructions and industry standards.
  • Provides complete and detailed Quality Control Daily Reports.
  • Utilizes internal quality assurance systems and tools to prepare reports for field superintendents, project managers and subcontrators detailing compliant and non-compliant quality conditions.
  • Leads inspections, testing and documentation of the work.
  • Schedules inspections and testing in coordination with field operations, trade partners, 3rd party special inspectors and the client. 
  • Participates in pre-functional and functional testing procedures. Verifies contractor’s performance of functional test.
  • Provides mentoring to less experienced co-workers.
  • Creates M/E tools and innovative solutions to continuously improve processes and work products.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.
  • Communication skills, verbal and written (Intermediate).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Intermediate).
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, building codes, standards and other technical data. 
  • Develops proficiency in basic JE Dunn construction M/E tools and software.
  • Knowledge of means and methods of construction management.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.


  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architectural engineering or related field (Required).
  • Certified Fire Protection Engineer (Required). 
  • In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant design or field related experience will be considered.


  • 8+ years construction and/or engineering experience (Preferred).
  • 5+ years experience as a Certified Fire Protection Engineer (Preferred).
