Role Summary
The Employee Relations Manager is responsible for working across our national footprint supporting compliance efforts and employee relations investigations, ensuring our workplace is fair, safe, and compliant with all relevant regulations and company policies. The role involves maintaining and creating policy documents, managing complex employee relations issues, conducting thorough investigations, and developing training to ensure our programs foster a positive work environment. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.
Key Role Responsibilities - Core
- Employee Relations Investigations:
- Conducts thorough, objective, and confidential investigations into employee complaints, grievances, and allegations of misconduct.
- Documents findings and recommendations in detailed investigation reports.
- Collaborates with legal counsel when necessary to ensure compliance with legal standards and company policies.
- Policy & Compliance:
- Ensures compliance with federal, state and local employment laws and regulations.
- Develops, updates and maintains policies and procedures that promote compliance and mitigate risk.
- Monitors changes in labor laws and updates company policies as needed.
- Conflict Resolution:
- Mediates conflicts and facilitates resolutions between employees and management.
- Provides guidance and support to internal stakeholders on resolving workplace disputes.
- Training and Development:
- Develops and delivers training programs on employee relations, compliance, and conflict resolution.
- Educates employees and managers on company policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyzes employee relations data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Prepares and presents reports to senior management on employee relations issues and outcomes.
- Advisory Role:
- Serves as a trusted advisor to internal stakeholders on employee relations matters.
- Provides guidance on performance management, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Acts as a thought partner regarding employee relations across the organization.
- Assists in the development and implementation of HR strategies and initiatives.
Key Role Responsibilities - Additional Core
In addition, this position:
- Works closely to ensure development and implementation of programs and policies are aligned with strategic objectives.
- Completes special projects by leading and managing them through the complete project life cycle.
- Partners cross-regionally to ensure consistent One Dunn approach to execution of programs and policies.
- Collaborates to ensure relevant HR practices and programs are aligned with business needs; makes recommendations when changes are appropriate.
- Provides performance management guidance to internal stakeholders (coaching, counseling, development, disciplinary actions). Advises on matters pertaining to performance improvement plans and disciplinary actions.
- Serves as the subject matter expert and gatekeeper for workplace accommodation requests.
- Analyzes exit data to identify trends and address areas of potential concern.
- Provides input and feedback that enhances the delivery of existing programs and processes.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of personal, medical and proprietary information.
- Translates vision for change into actionable plans and supports innovative and comprehensive change management strategies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong investigative and conflict resolution skills with a focus on problem-solving.
- Timely and accurate work with attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including effective presentations.
- Proficient in MS Office and adaptable to various software tools.
- In-depth knowledge of HR policies, employee relations, and employment laws.
- Proven ability to influence change and design HR solutions that foster a positive culture.
- Technology advocate, using data to enhance decision-making and efficiency.
- Self-motivated and accountable, demonstrating initiative in all tasks.
- Strong organizational and listening skills, fostering collaboration and relationship-building.
- High emotional intelligence, handling sensitive issues with empathy.
Education
- Bachelors degree in human resources or related field (Required)
- In lieu of the above requirements, relevant experience will be considered
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in employee relations, HR compliance, or a similar role, preferably in the construction industry. (Required)
- Strong experience with navigating complex investigations, employee relations, employment laws and regulations.
- Employment law degree (Preferred)
- Proficiency in HRIS and other relevant software applications.
- Demonstrates an advanced knowledge of the laws and policies affecting employee relations processes, programs, and/or strategies, including but not limited to: Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, NLRB, etc.
- Provides subject matter expertise in specialized regulatory areas globally (including EEO, ADA, OFCCP, FMLA, WARN Act, OSHA, FLSA, etc.)
