Role Summary

The Insurance Specialist will administer the subcontractor certificate process and manage complex Builder’s Risk (or similar) insurance procurements for projects. This position will be responsible for assisting on the preparation and review of construction claims, including identifying ways to mitigate claims and loss payments. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core

INSURANCE COORDINATOR - CORE

  • Works with internal project and support staff as well as external insurance brokers and vendors to administer and process insurance requests from projects.
  • Assists on subcontractor certificate process including communicating with internal partners or third party vendors to assess subcontractors and brokers regarding insurance questions.
  • Responsible for processing subcontractor insurance exceptions, accurately documenting findings, and approving or escalating issues with manager oversight.
  • Administers Builders Risk procurement for projects including collecting information regarding risk needs and coordinates pricing effort with outside broker with manager oversight.
  • Ensures Builder’s Risk quotes match company standards by working with outside broker to develop strategic pricing options with project teams and communicates those pricing options to the project team with manager oversight.
  • Reconciles monthly Builder’s Risk project report.
  • May organize and facilitate internal Risk and subcontractor certificate training as needed.
  • Reviews and assists on lower-level construction claims, including interaction with insurance adjusters as needed.
  • Verifies and analyzes data and prepares reports as necessary.

Key Role Responsibilities - Additional Core

INSURANCE SPECIALIST

In addition, this position will be responsible for:

  • Manages the subcontractor certificate process, training, and vendor relationship.
  • Manages binding of Builder’s Risk policy and invoicing.
  • Assists internal Legal department with assessment of Owner-provided Builder’s Risk.
  • Independently performs Builders Risk procurement for projects including collecting information regarding risk needs and coordinates pricing effort with outside broker.
  • Independently verifies Builder’s Risk quotes match company standards by working with outside broker to develop strategic pricing options with project teams and communicates those pricing options to the project team.
  • With limited oversight, processes subcontractor insurance exceptions, accurately documenting findings, and approving or escalating issues.
  • Prepares and reviews new construction claims for reporting to carriers.
  • Performs claims processing and acts as the day-to-day liaison between the Company and the insurance adjusters for lower-level claims.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.
  • Communication skills, verbal and written (Intermediate).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Intermediate).
  • Proficiency in Excel – Advanced
  • Ability to support Risk Management training and presentations
  • Detail oriented with exceptional organizational skills (Intermediate).
  • Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of organizational structure and available resources.
  • Ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with a team, internally and externally.
  • Adapts to change and stress in the work environment and manages competing demands while maintaining high performance levels.
  • Supports change initiatives.  Identifies the best approach for implementing strategic processes.
  • Participates in educational activities related to knowledge and professional issues.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field (Preferred)
  • In lieu of the above requirements, relevant experience will be considered

Experience

  • 3+ years insurance industry experience with emphasis in construction insurance (Preferred)

Working Environment

  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds
  • May require periods of overnight travel
  • Normal office environment
  • Frequent activity: Sitting, Viewing Computer Screen
  • Occasional activity: Standing, Walking, Bending, Reaching above Shoulder
