Role Summary

The M/E Engineer 3 – Building Automation / Low Voltage Coordinator will complete complex building automation and low voltage (operational technology) coordination activities in support of pre-construction and construction. This position will coordinate building automation and low voltage efforts, provide guidance and oversight, and foster a collaborative team consisting of the building owner, trade partners, vendors, to deliver systems in compliance with contract documents and industry standards. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision, and values of JE Dunn. The Building Automation / Low Voltage Coordinator is responsible for the successful delivery of projects by organizing the design teams, trade partners, processes, and technology when projects utilize design-build, design assistance, or other alternate delivery methods. This position requires proactive management of the design process with all parties ensuring coordinated documents that support the project goals.

Autonomy & Decision-Making: Makes decisions on routine matters, provides recommendations to supervisor, and refers all exceptions to supervisor.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core

ME ENGINEER FAMILY – CORE

  • Learns and actively participates in all aspects of the company’s safety and quality plans.
  • Learn how to develop budgetary building automation and low voltage using automated M/E estimating system.
  • Assists in the review of automation system and low voltage system options as part of the preconstruction process.
  • Learns to develop building automation and low voltage scopes of work.
  • Assists in the completion of bid analysis and provides input during the subcontractor selection process.
  • Assists in developing sequencing requirements of various systems and provides solutions to meet schedule requirements.
  • Learns to perform job inspections to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality and timely manner.
  • Assists in the commissioning process by providing input on pre-functional checklists, functional testing procedures, and functional testing.
  • Reviews and understands bridging documents for project compliance with RFP.
  • Manages external design team partners/consultants, assuring they meet the technical, quality as well as schedule requirements for design deliverables.
  • Assists project management with managing project documentation such as proposal, drawings, specifications, reports, calculations, and shop drawings.
  • Reviews project documentation, such as, proposal’s, drawings, specifications, reports, calculations, and shop drawings and provide quality control review comments to ensure the project specifications, code authority having jurisdiction requirements and life-safety requirements are met.
  • Provides design engineering support for the entire life cycle of the project (proposal, engineering, equipment selection, permitting, training, and construction).

START-UP COORDINATION / COMMISSIONING COORDINATION / CLOSE OUT COORDINATION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Facilitate communication between appropriate parties, keep team informed of these issues and schedule constraints, provide tracking and verification for JE Dunn.
  • Assist and support Commissioning activities and facilitate the resolution of issues.
  • Assist in final Close-out inspection with required parties. Facility owner training activities. 

Key Role Responsibilities - Additional Core

In addition, this position will be responsible for the following:

  • Gains knowledge of control systems, such as Building Automation, EMS, Process Controls, and other systems common to commercial buildings.
  • Facilitates coordination meetings between control system designers, trade partners, manufacturers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Provides technical guidance and problem solving to mitigate design and construction related challenges.
  • Performs job inspections at various times in the project to ensure specifications and expectations are met and work is completed in a quality manner.
  • Reviews shop drawings, product data, and related submittals prior to submission.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.
  • Communication skills, verbal and written (Intermediate).
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Intermediate).
  • Ability to read and understand plans, drawings and specifications.
  • Develops proficiency in basic JE Dunn construction M/E tools and software.
  • Knowledge of means and methods of construction management.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architectural engineering or related field (Required).
  • In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

CERTIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS

  • Successful completion of OSHA 30 training, within required timeframe (Required).
  • Successful completion and maintenance of First Aid Certification, CPR (Preferred).
  • Current valid driver's license (Preferred).
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering exam (Preferred).
  • Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (Preferred).
  • Participation in local professional affiliation or society within your discipline (Preferred).

Experience

  • 5+ years construction and/or engineering experience (Preferred).

Working Environment

  • Valid and unrestricted drivers license required
