Role Summary
The Senior Structural Engineering Quality Specialist will complete routine activities to monitor and coordinate the structural engineering quality program. This position will be responsible for reviewing documents, collaborating with project teams, attending meetings, conducting field observations or inspections and investigating non-compliant conditions. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.
Key Role Responsibilities - Core
QUALITY SPECIALIST FAMILY - CORE
- Collaborates with the project team on communication with the design team on structural issues.
- Assists JE Dunn Quality personnel for all structural related issues.
- Provides Pre-Build shop engineering assistance.
- Means and Methods design and/or review of design. This may include:
- Construction bracing
- Temporary shoring
- Reviews and assists with structural challenges on jobsites.
- Quality walks for structural scopes (i.e. precast, structural steel, cast-in-place)
- Review of structural components of prefabricated structures
- Collaborates with JE Dunn's Design Phase Services group.
- Assists with the coordination of structural trade partners.
Key Role Responsibilities - Additional Core
SENIOR QUALITY SPECIALIST
In addition, this position will be responsible for the following:
- Assumes responsibility for conducting detailed constructability reviews and participates in page-turn review meetings.
- Performs intermediate quality assurance testing including water, moisture content, material compatibility and adhesion.
- Assumes responsibility for basic training onsite or at office location on construction quality-related topics.
- May be required to review and certify submittals for accuracy.
- Identifies, documents and recommends solutions to construction quality issues.
- Capable of communicating project quality status and issues at project review meetings.
- Identifies non-compliant conditions using advanced quality recognition skills.
- Provides mentoring to less experienced co-workers in advanced quality-related topics.
- Creates technical documentation for internal use based on knowledge and review of industry standards (i.e. white papers)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to perform work accurately and completely, and in a timely manner.
- Communication skills, verbal and written (Intermediate).
- Proficiency in MS Office (Intermediate).
- Formal presentation skills (Intermediate).
- Ability to read drawings, specifications, building codes and other technical product and material data (Intermediate).
- Knowledge of material and field testing for QA processes (Intermediate).
- Knowledge of construction assemblies for a variety of construction systems (Intermediate).
- Proficiency in basic JE Dunn construction and quality software tools.
- Knowledge of construction trades and scopes of work (Intermediate).
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.
Education
- Bachelors’ degree in related field (Preferred).
- In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
Experience
- 5+ years construction quality-related experience (Required).
Working Environment
- Valid and unrestricted drivers license required
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
- Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet business needs
- May require periods of overnight travel
- Normal office environment, but may be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold)
- Frequent activity: Standing, Walking, Sitting, Viewing Computer Screen
- Occasional activity: Bending, Reaching above Shoulder
