Role Summary

The Surety Specialist will provide daily surety broker and related services for company affiliates as a licensed property and casualty agent.  This position will be responsible for preparing quotes and submissions, preparing and processing bonds and managing the invoicing process with the sureties, including payments to sureties. All activities will be performed in support of the strategy, vision and values of JE Dunn.

Key Role Responsibilities - Core

SURETY SPECIALIST FAMILY – CORE

  • Facilitates the issuance of surety bonds and surety bond increases/decreases (riders) by preparing necessary documentation and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Processes bonds/bond quotes by utilizing a pertinent bond checklist, database entry, executing the bond(s)/rider(s), providing to reviewer and sending bond(s)/rider(s) per client instructions.
  • Prepares submissions on bond authorization requests, reviews submission requests, ensures information is correct and obtains and/or prepares additional information and supporting documentation, if needed.
  • Responds to billing inquiries, manages agency and surety billing processes, processes informational requests such as consent of final payment and final bond closeouts and helps in the verification of owner inquiries.
  • Assists project teams in responding to RFPs, prepares bondability letters, and works with joint venture partners as needed for JV bonds.
  • Responsible for Agency and individual Producer licensing for new business and annual/bi-annual renewals in all jurisdictions in which the company conducts business, including tracking same.
  • Monitors and tracks Producer Continuing Education requirements.
  • Prepares written correspondence, reports and memos to the surety over line of authority for approvals and rate verification.
  • Interacts and builds strong relationships with local and regional surety underwriters as well as internal accounting personnel.
  • Assists company compliance team with contractor licensing requirements.
  • Maintains current knowledge of industry trends, legal requirements and changes in regulations.
  • Maintains proper desk procedures and processes and develops and updates internal standard operating procedures and customer-facing training materials.
  • Interfaces with other key internal and external staff to obtain necessary information and address correspondence issues or requests and delivers presentations as necessary.
  • Demonstrates willingness and ability to work collaboratively with others, improving concise and timely flow of information and displaying a positive and professional attitude at work.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field (Preferred)
  • In lieu of the above requirements, equivalent relevant experience will be considered.

Experience

  • 3+ years’ experience servicing contract and surety accounts (Preferred)

Certifications

  • Successful completion of company training and role-specific professional development coursework, within required timeframe (Required)
  • Property and Casualty License or ability to obtain within six months of employment (Required)

Working Environment

  • Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds
  • Typically travel is not required
